Corrupt Windows Backup Catalog

Corrupt Windows Backup Catalog

A little earlier in the week, we came across an issue with Windows Backup whereby you could not see the Windows Server backup activity. Of course, this did concern us as it looked as though the backups were not running. See below:

corrupt windows server backup

After some digging, it turned out that the backup schedule was still in place and the backups were in fact still running.

Looking a little further into the issue, it transpired that it was the backup catalog that had become corrupt. The catalog is what stores information about your backup, such as the volumes being backed up and where they are located. When this becomes corrupt, you can no longer see information of the last backups that have run in the activity screen.

To fix the corrupt Windows Backup Catalog, please follow these steps below:

*Please note that by following these steps, you will delete the Corrupt Windows Server Backup Catalog. It is recommended that you reconfigure any backups following these steps.*

Fix Corrupt Windows Server Backup Catalog

  • Firstly, click on the Windows button on the bottom left of your screen

  • Then start typing: Command Prompt

  • Right-click on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator

  • Copy and paste the following command:
    wbadmin delete catalog [-quiet]

  • Then press Enter / Return on your keyboard

When you next open Windows Server Backup, you will then see all those backups that have in fact been running all along!

Font Choices

There are endless choices for fonts. Trying a new one is easy and can breathe new life on your website, publications and more.

Example Source

One of my favourite places to find new fonts is Google Fonts.

Sometimes you need something a little different but still professional. Simply sort by most popular and find simple but unique styles that won’t offend or overwhelm.

The four most popular Google Fonts

Safe senders and domains in the Outlook Web App in Office 365

Safe senders and domains in the Outlook Web App in Office 365

In this post we will show you how to manage your safe senders and domains in the Outlook Web App

Office 365 has a very good email security and spam filtering system but sometimes it can be frustrating when you keep on getting the same old messages, from the old same senders, always going into your Junk Email folder.  Simply moving these emails back to your inbox does not have any effect and the next email you get from them goes back into the Junk Email folder.

If you are experiencing this issue and you have legitimate emails that are ending up in your Junk Email, you can easily add the email address to the safe senders and domains list which effectively whitelists them and stops the problem.

If you’re familiar with Hotmail or Outlook.com mail, it is a very similar process.

Here is what you need to do in the Outlook Web App in Office 365
  • Log into your Office 365 email account by going to https://portal.office.com
  • If Outlook doesn’t open by default, click on the Outlook app icon.

manage your Safe Senders and Domains in the Outlook Web App in Office 365

  • At the top right of the screen, click on the settings wheel, and select View all Outlook settings.
  • Next click on the Junk Email section and then click on the Add button by the Safe senders and domains section.
  • Enter the email address or domain that you want to approve and click the save button – it is as easy as that!

Excel Blank Window Error

Excel Blank Window Error

Yesterday one of our clients encountered a very annoying error in Microsoft Excel 2016, a blank window error. Admittedly there was no actual error message, but when you can’t see any content it’s quite an issue. While we were investigating the issue we found that any Excel file we opened it would be blank or “grey”. However, we were able to open them if we went to File > Open, which was interesting.

We tried to repair, re-install and numerous other fixes but the one that ended up working was ticking a box then unticking it, how peculiar!

Steps to resolve Excel blank window error

  1. Open Microsoft Excel
  2. Go to File
  3. Options
  4. Advanced
  5. Under General tick the Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE)
  6. Close and open Excel
  7. Then follow the same steps and untick the box
